Geektown
Written by John.

I received a great PM from one of our users tonight and I thought I’d share it here. Thanks Emerson!

Emerson said:

Nice site bro. I think this place could really get booming, but ive seen alot of mixed responses. On the several occaisions that ive seen this website talked about it was mostly sarcastic jokes. What do you think you can do to take this idea beyond the image of geektown? And I dont mean offense by that, it isnt my opinion, just what ive seen.

I said:

Thanks man! I really appreciate the encouragement. At this point, I’ve read about 100+ blogs/editorials about datecraft ranging from the completely insane to the reasonable and logical spanning about every emotion under the sun. Let me first tell you that I completely expected that. I think the most common first impression and first response is absolute shock, and then a sarcastic remark… i mean, common, a “dating” website for WoW players? seriously!

But, it is what it is. My goal is to position datecraft as a site about relationships. the “dating” spin is just because.

moving from geektown? I’m open to suggestions. But, really, I’m just providing the medium, the rest is up the users. Certainly there’s a couple executional things that might help facilitate moving from geektown, but, at this point, our number 1 goal is growth… because a bigger community means broader appeal, a much more colorful and rich community, and less of the stereotypical geeks, etc. Just like a real world community!

So, what are the immediate needs? again, growth! Let others know! Tell others in game, out of game, wherever. Get them to not only sign up but become active community members. One of the things that I’m really passionate about is community ownership… meaning, the community drives change and the momentum of the whole shibang. I’m thinking about ways of better doing this, so stay tuned…!

Thanks for your comments and / or suggestions. I want everyone to know that I’m completely open to them. No idea is a crazy idea (initially…) and again, my philosophy is that the community leads. I’m just the guy in the background trying to make sure things don’t crash and burn.

I think Emrson brought up a great point.  Let’s continue to think of ideas on how to make the community the best it can be!

Here’s what the LCD boasts:

Gaming fans get ready to smoke the competition with this Acer 22” 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor. You will be hard pressed to find a monitor of this caliber with a blazing response time of only 5ms! Hard-core gamers will certainly enjoy the ghost-free gaming experience they’ll get with this stunning value.

This widescreen’s monitor’s features are first-rate. A 1680 X 1050 max resolution, a 700:1 contrast ratio and 300 cd/m² of searing brightness light up the room with magnificent color. In addition to gamers, desktop publishers and graphic designers can run multiple apps, or edit a layout in strikingly vibrant color. This Acer model features a DVI and D-Sub connector port, and is also VESA-compliant for wall mounting, so feel free to showcase this in any room or office. The slim bezel coupled with this monitor’s ultra-contemporary design will look awesome.

Perfect for pwning some n00bs with.

Stay tuned for more details, and get those creative juices flowing!

Community Marketplace
Written by John.

What do you guys think about having a Community Marketplace?  Think of it as being a Datecraft-version of Craigslist.  Discuss it on the Forum, under Suggestions.

You’d be able to buy, sell, trade, offer services to other members, etc…
